This notice is for California residents and is given under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the “CCPA”). It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and adds the disclosures the CCPA specifically requires. Where the two documents differ on California rights, this notice controls.
The short version. QuoteCompareNow does not sell personal information for money, and we host no quote form, so we never collect your name, phone number, email address, or driver details. We do run advertising measurement and analytics cookies, and under the CCPA's broad definition that activity may count as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Over the past 12 months we may have collected the following categories, using the CCPA's own category names:
We do not collect your name, telephone number, mailing address, date of birth, driver's license or Social Security number, vehicle or driving history, biometric information, precise geolocation, financial account or payment card numbers, employment information, or education records. When you request quotes, you enter that information on our marketplace partner's site, not ours.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information as the CCPA defines it, and we do not use or disclose any such information beyond the purposes permitted by CCPA section 1798.121(a). There is therefore nothing for a request to “limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information” to restrict. If that ever changes, this notice will change first and the right will be offered here.
We also disclose information where the law requires it, to protect rights and safety, and in connection with a merger or sale of assets, in which case this notice travels with the data.
We do not sell personal information for money, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months. We are not paid by anyone for access to data about you; we are paid when a visitor requests quotes through our links.
We are not going to split hairs about the second half, though. We run a Microsoft Advertising measurement tag and Microsoft Clarity analytics on this site. Those tags set cookies and pass information about your visit to the platform that operates them, which can be used for advertising measurement and audience purposes. Under the CCPA's broad definition of “sharing” — disclosing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising — that activity may qualify. We treat it as if it does, and we offer a real opt-out rather than a technicality.
We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
You have three routes, and you do not need an account for any of them:
An opt-out applies to the browser and device where you make it. If you clear your cookies, switch browsers, or use another device, you will need to opt out again there.
Server logs are kept for a short operating period and then deleted or de-identified. Analytics and advertising measurement data is retained according to the platform's own schedule and is used in aggregate. Email you send us is kept as long as needed to handle your message and to show that we handled it. We do not hold personal information indefinitely just because we happen to have it.
Email [email protected], say which right you are exercising, and tell us that you are a California resident. Please do not send sensitive information such as a Social Security number; we do not need it and do not want it.
One practical note. Because we collect no names, phone numbers, or account details, there is usually very little tied to any individual on our side, and often nothing we can link to you at all. For a request to know or delete, the most we can typically match on is an email address you write from or an approximate date and IP address you supply. If we hold nothing linkable, we will tell you that plainly rather than inventing a record.
We verify identity before acting on a request to know, delete, or correct, by matching what you give us against what we hold. If we cannot verify you, we will explain why instead of acting on an unverified request about someone else's data. An opt-out request does not require verification.
We acknowledge requests within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days. If we need longer, we will tell you inside that window and may take up to 90 days in total. There is no charge.
You may use an authorized agent. We will ask for written proof that you gave the agent permission, and we may still ask you to verify your own identity directly. An agent acting under a valid power of attorney does not need separate written permission.
Separately from the CCPA, California Civil Code section 1798.83 lets residents ask a business once a year about personal information it disclosed to third parties for those parties' own direct marketing. We do not disclose personal information for that purpose, so there is nothing to report, but you are welcome to ask at the address above.
A growing number of states now give residents comparable rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising. We apply the practices in this notice to every visitor rather than only to Californians. If your state gives you a right this notice does not mention, write to us and we will honor it.
We will update this page and its effective date when our practices change. Any change that broadens what we sell or share will be posted here before the practice begins, not after.
